God had made Heaven and the Earth and all the Angels and all
the extra important Angels, called Archangels. (Like an important Bishop is
called an Archbishop.) The Archangels were God's special subjects. One Archangel
was called Michael (along with St. Gabriel and St. Raphael). Michael was
"the Angel of the Lord", who was sent to Moses, Jacob and Abraham and
others throughout history. Another Archangel
was Lucifer, who was so beautiful that the other Angels called him the Son of
the Morning.
All were content in Heaven. Then one day Lucifer, Son of the
Morning, said to himself: "Why should God be the most important person in
Heaven? Why, shouldn't I be? I am beautiful and I am powerful. In fact, I am
just as important as God, and I shall fight Him and have Heaven for
myself!"
So, Lucifer went around Heaven, and he collected a lot of
other Angels who also didn't want to be less important than God, until he had a
Great Army. Then they marched up to the Throne of God and and challenged Him to
Heaven. God called Michael the Archangel, and made him gather together a Mighty Army of
Angels on God's side.
There was a Great Battle in Heaven--Michael and his Angels
fighting with Lucifer; and, Lucifer fought, and his Angels fought; but, they
did NOT win. And Michael drove Lucifer out of Heaven, and he fell down to hell;
and, all his bad angels were driven down after him, and as the last one
disappeared from sight forever and the Gate of Heaven shut tightly, a great
Shout went up for Michael's Army.
So, now you know why we sometimes say in our prayers,
"Holy St. Michael the Archangel, defend
us in the Day of Battle," because he is so good at battles and a great
warrior.

Prayer to St Michael For Protection Against Evil and Danger
Dear St. Michael, the Archangel,
protect us, both body and soul from the Evil One, his followers and anyone who
would approach us with malicious intent.
Protect us, our bodies, and our cars, as we travel about in
our daily activities.
Protect us, our bodies, our home, our property and
possessions during times of storm, from all dangers of lightning, high winds,
hail and flood waters. Amen.
Prayer to Saint Michael (for a specific need)
St. Michael, intercede for me with God in all my
necessities, especially (name your specific need). Obtain for me a favorable
outcome in the matter I recommend to you. Mighty prince of the heavenly host,
and victor over rebellious spirits, remember me for I am weak and sinful and so
prone to pride and ambition. Be for me, I pray, my powerful aid in temptation
and difficulty, and above all do not forsake me in my last struggle with the
powers of evil. Amen.
