Making Holy Water

There are two methods of making Holy Water .... a short version and a long version .... guess I’m old school and like doing things the hard way lol

In a nutshell, the short version consists of adding salt to water and reciting prayer over it. I know some people who even skip the salt part.

In my opinion the more of your own energy and effort you put in to something, the more you get out of it and the stronger it is.  This long version of making Holy Water is the one I use.

Again, in my opinion, you cannot take two IMPURE substances (water and salt) and combine them together and end up with something PURE. So... to make the finished product pure the two substances should be made pure from the start. This is not to say that those who follow the shorter method are doing it incorrectly.

In the past Catholic Priests would make water Holy by this very same ritual I am sharing with you. First exorcising the salt and then exorcising the water. To this day some Churches are still using this method.

The traditional method is in fact an exorcism made by the church. The Latin formula used by the Church for exorcising and blessing the water is....

Exorcizo te, creatura aquae in nomine Dei Patris omnipotentis, et in nomine Jesu Christi, Filii ejus Domini nostri, et in virtute Spiritus Sancti: ut fias aqua exorcizata ad effugandam omnem potestatem inimici, et ipsum inimicum eradicare et explantare valeas cum angelis suis apostaticis, per virtutem ejusdem Domini nostri Jesu Christ: qui venturus est judicare vivos et mortuos et saeculum per ignem.

The above translates...

I exorcise thee in the name of God the Father almighty, and in the name of Jesus Christ His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy Ghost, that you may be able to put to flight all the power of the enemy, and be able to root out and supplant that enemy and his apostate angels; through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.

Deus, qui ad salutem humani generis maxima quaeque sacramenta in aquarum substantia condidisti: adesto propitius invocationibus nostris, et elemento huic, multimodis purificationibus praeparato, virtutem tuae benedictionis infunde; ut creatura tua, mysteriis tuis serviens, ad abigendos daemones morbosque pellendos divinae gratiae sumat effectum; ut quidquid in domibus vel in locis fidelium haec unda resperserit careat omni immunditia, liberetur a noxa. The above translates...

God, who for the salvation of the human race has built your greatest mysteries upon this substance, in your kindness hear our prayers and pour down the power of your blessing into this element, prepared by many purifications. May this your creation be a vessel of divine grace to dispel demons and sicknesses, so that everything that it is sprinkled on in the homes and buildings of the faithful will be rid of all unclean and harmful things. Let no pestilent spirit, no corrupting atmosphere, remain in those places: may all the schemes of the hidden enemy be dispelled. Let whatever might trouble the safety and peace of those who live here be put to flight by this water, so that health, gotten by calling your holy name, may be made secure against all attacks. Through the Lord, amen.

These prayers and exorcisms show the uses and powers that have been attributed to holy water in Roman Catholic tradition.

Today, people are mostly “microwave” types.... always looking for quick fixes and instant gratification. Call it whatever you will but I like traditional methods- “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”
