This is the perfect time for all spellcrafters both experienced and the newly awakened to gather their herbs, candles and oils for a truly powerful experience. On New Year’s Eve we have three natural powers aligned to our advantage. First there will be a blue moon, second is a partial lunar eclipse, and third is the coming of the New Year. So what does this mean? I’m glad you asked!
Most people are aware of the influence plants and moon phases can have on the outcome of spellwork but this New Year’s Eve happens to be an astronomical phenomenon.
What is a blue moon and what are its affect on spiritual matters?
There is usually only one full moon every month since the 29.5 day cycle of the moon lines up fairly well with the length of our calendar months. Sometimes there are two full moons within the same month which usually occur every 2½ years. This second full moon is called the blue moon. This is where the term “once in a blue moon” came about...meaning something that only happens occasionally. A blue moon falling at the end of the year is very rare. The last blue moon occurred in May of 2007 and the last time a blue moon fell on New Year's Eve was in 1990. The next time we will see a blue moon for the New Year will be in 2028!
For spellworkers blue moons are good for adding power to our desired goals, heightened spiritual awareness, and to fine tune our divination practices.
Twilight eclipses happen only about twice a year. The moon seems to completely disappear during a total lunar eclipse when it fully passes through the earth’s shadow. When the moon just barely meets the earth’s shadow this creates a partial eclipse. This is what will happen this month, a partial meeting. By the way, did you know that a lunar eclipse can only happen during the Full Moon? Interesting huh?
There are different beliefs when it comes to working spells during the lunar darkness. Some people feel that because the earth is casting darkness over the moon their attempt at spellwork will also be blocked. Others feel very differently about working during this time. In my opinion I find it to be a very powerful combination of both energies.
Lunar eclipses can work to bring us a closer connection to the spirit world and is a powerful time for both protection and cleansing away all the bad vibes that may be hanging around. Oh, did I mention that the lunar eclipse is also good for dominating and commanding a person or situation?
Spellwork for the closing of the year is known for accomplishing goals of ridding the old and unwanted and starting the new year off to a good start. New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to bring in positive forces whether you’re looking to better your finances, better jobs, breaking bad habits, or improving stale relationships.
All these different things (ending of the year, eclipses, blue moon) carry their own particular types of energy which are all powerful in their own right. This New Years Eve will be a powerful combining of them all at one time. So do not miss out on this “Once in a Blue Moon” opportunity that is given to us to create some really potent spellwork and incredible manifestations. New Years Eve of 2009 will be the strongest of energies until 2028.
Those that have taken my courses will realize how powerful this combination of planetary energies can affect the success of our magical goals since this is something we have talked about.
On another note my courses will be starting up again in about a week or so. Check out the different spellwork courses offered on my website at www.curiouscurandera.com –

Ajo Macho (Male Garlic) Candle
Ajo Macho is normally used in order to protect yourself from enemies, negativity, and evil which may be lurking...noticed or unnoticed. This includes the envy of others, people who are out to destroy your reputation, less than friendly co-workers, those who drain your energy, witchcraft, and to break the effects of the evil eye. Ajo Macho will protect against the forces of evil and at the same time it cleanses away the negative vibrations and attracts good luck.
Garlic has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal and protective powers. The ancients would eat raw cloves of garlic because it made them burp....every time they would burp the odor of the garlic was released...ewwwh...they did this in order to keep evil away from them. It’s my belief that they kept more than evil away if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t be surprised if their love life suffered...lol
Growing up, I remember my elders, who were spiritual workers, would keep cloves of garlic in their pocket for protection. It was common to see fresh garlic braided together and hung over doorways or bowls of garlic strewed about the house. The dry, brittle garlic skins were also burned for the same purpose.
Its said that male garlic was planted in the earth at the foot of the cross on Mount Calvary when Jesus was crucified but I have not been able to find any solid evidence of this. Some say that the garlic was placed there in order to keep demons from attacking Jesus while he was in a weakened condition. Others say that the garlic was planted to symbolize eternal life and protection from evil. Because of this belief the following prayer is recited in order to bless and empower garlic cloves used for spiritual protection.
Prayer To The Garlic
“Miraculous garlic, you were put on Mount Calvary where Jesus died in order to give us eternal light and freedom from all evil. Free me from confinement and from demons. Free me from my enemies who wish to see me suffer or hurt me. Blind their sight so they cannot see me, paralyze their feet so they cannot near me, bind their hands so they cannot touch me nor their weapons be pointed at me. Miraculous garlic, give me freedom from all harm and bless me with work, money, good friendships, love, health, and happiness. So be it. Amen”
Ajo Macho Candle
This is to shield you from any kind of negative influence.
You will need:
3 fresh clove of garlic, small ones
1 white pouch
1 Ajo Macho Candle
1 small bowl of Holy Water
1 white dressmakers pin (the ones with the colored balls on top)
Do this:
Okay, you can’t be protected from negative influences if you don’t clear your home first....Take the ajo macho candle and with the dressmakers pin carve the Star of David around the wick. Light the candle to free your home of negativity. The way I do it is to begin at the back part of my home and work my way up front...just as if I were doing a house cleansing. I allow the candle to burn in each room for 1 hour working my way up to the front door. At the front door I allow the candle to burn out. Some people just light it anywhere in the house...this is fine...it’s just my personal preference to move it throughout each room.
Now for the protection....
Take the bowl of Holy Water and dip the cloves of garlic inside allowing them to soak up some Holy vibrations. Make sure to fully submerge each clove. Do this three times. Then place them inside the pouch. Before tying it shut recite the garlic blessing above. Carry this with you in your purse or pocket. Replace the garlic with fresh ones once a month.

Prosperity: Kitchen Witchery
I’d like to wish everyone a great thanksgiving holiday...Gobble, Gobble. Tis the season for food...sometimes a ton of it! Why not play the role of the “kitchen witch” and use the things we normally consume on thanksgiving day to amplify prosperity. Okay turkeys and turkettes get out the herbs and spices and let’s get down to business.
Allspice can be added to homemade baked goods and is great for attracting abundance and helpful friendships.
Anise is used for keeping everyone grounded. This would be perfect for someone who seems to be a little scattered....don’t we all have at least one of these people in our families...lol
Basil added to foods works well for family happiness and harmony.
Fidelity,
Bay Leaf is good for bettering the finances but it’s also good for controlling and dominating a person or situation. Gives lots of Bay Leaf to the person you want to control...haha
Beets are wonderful for bonding people together.
Chives can be added to food to stop someone from interfering in your life....hmmm, INLAWS!!
Cinnamon can be added to baked goods to encourage creativity or to strengthen the bond between couples. Cinnamon is also an aphrodisiac so be sure to sprinkle extra on your lovers plate.
Cauliflower, Peas, and Corn create prosperity, and Potatoes encourage healing.

Pan De Muerto For All Souls Day
This is the recipe I use for Day of The Dead
Ingredients:
1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon anise seed
2 packets active dry yeast
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup water
8 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 large eggs
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 egg yolk beaten with 2 teaspoons water
Instructions:
Combine sugar, salt, anise seed, and yeast in a small mixing bowl.
Heat milk, water, and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until butter is just melted; do not allow it to boil.
Add milk mixture to dry mixture and beat well with a wire whisk.
Stir in eggs and 1 1/2 cups of the flour and beat well.
Add remaining flour, little by little, stirring well with a wooden spoon until dough comes together.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured wooden board and knead until it is smooth and elastic, and no longer sticky, about 9 to 10 minutes.
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and allow it to rise in a warm area until it has doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
Heat the oven to 350°F and arrange a rack in the middle.
Punch down dough and divide into 2 pieces.
Cut 3 small (about 1-ounce) balls from each half and mold them into skull-and-bones shapes. Shape large balls of dough into round loaf shapes, and place skull-and-bones on top.
Place breads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let rise another hour.
Brush loaves with egg yolk mixture and bake.
Halfway through baking, about 20 minutes, remove loaves from oven and brush again with egg wash and sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar.
Return to oven and bake until loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped, about another 20 minutes.
YUM!!!

Folk Magic: Protection
With Halloween just around the corner being protected from evil spirits and enemies is important, especially for the spiritual worker. This is a powerful day for enemies to conjure up entities to do harm or take revenge on unsuspecting victims. Being prepared will help to ward off these attacks. Geeezzz, the life of a spiritual worker is never ending. The good news is, because Halloween is such a powerful day for spellwork, it’s also a good to do “good” magic too. This is the one day of the entire year that offers the spellworker an unlimited amount of spirits that are willing to help you out in your quest.
To Be Protected From Your Enemies For An Entire Year
Get a glass jar with a screw top lid. Paint the inside of the jar with black paint, including the bottom. Place 9 rusty nails inside the jar, 9 broken pieces of jagged glass, 9 cactus needles, and 9 black peppercorns. Get a piece of brown paper bag and rip round the edges 9 times so that there are no “straight edges”, each time ripping “away” from you, not towards you. On the paper write the enemy’s name 9 times, each on its own line. Now place a single drop of bats blood oil on each of the names (for a total of 9 drops). Using an eyedropper makes this easier. Get two black dressmakers pins and stick them through the names to form a large “X”. Place the paper inside the jar and seal it shut. The jar is to be buried in the cemetery at either 9am or 9pm.

Mano Poderosa: Healing Amulet
Hey kids.....lets make a healing medal that you can either use on yourself or on others.
Obtain a Mano Poderosa medal. You can find these medals all over the internet for pennies. Fill a small shallow container with Holy Water and place the medal inside the container to soak while the following prayer is recited (if you’re not Christian than find your own prayer ;)
O God, at your word all things are made holy.
Pour your blessing upon this medal which you have made.
Grant that whoever gratefully makes use of it
according to your will and law may,
by calling on your holy name,
receive from you health of body
and salvation of soul,
through Christ our Lord.
Add three drops of rosemary oil into the water. Place the container outdoors for three nights during the waning moon phase (to remove illness). Make sure to get up early so that you can bring the container indoors before the sun comes up.
After the third night remove the medal from the container and pour the water outdoors at the main entrance of your home.
Now you will want to dress five white votive candles with rosemary oil and recite the Mano Poderosa prayer. The five white votives represent the five fingers of Jesus. After the candles are properly dressed with oil arrange them in a circle. Place the Mano Poderosa medal in the center of the circle and recite the following prayer.
O Powerful Hand of God!
I place my soul before you,
and in my despair and anguish,
beseech you to aid me with your almighty power.
At your feet I place the devotion of my sorrowful heart
that I might be delivered from my suffering.
May the loving kindness of your power
help me and give me strength and wisdom
to live in peace and happiness.
Thou who has suffered,
reach out thy hand to me with a great blessing.
Thy pierced hand with thy saintly fingers
inspires my humble prayers.
Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given to you.”
Through thy most precious blood I seek,
and I ask that my prayers be heard and granted.
I carry a likeness of your pierced hand with me always
as a loving symbol of your great kindness.
And I call on the graces necessary for peace and happiness.
Grant me this request.
Amen.
The medal is ready for use. You can use the medal in several ways. First you could carry it in your pocket, purse, or around you neck to protect you from illness.....or.....you could sweep the medal over the body whenever you feel illness creeping up, asking for the powerful hand to remove it.....or.....you could keep it under your mattress and allow the healing to take place during sleep.
The medal should be cleansed at least once a month. My preference is on the first Friday of the month.
Amen.

St Camillus Healing Box
This box can be created to offer healing energy to those in need. This is a simple concept which is strengthened with the love and devotion that St Camillus had for helping the sick.
For this spiritual work you will need a small wooden box. I don’t believe in using plastic in spiritual practices and find that wood brings strength and an added element to the work at hand. If you cannot find a wooden box the next best thing would be cardboard or paper mache, but wood is the absolute best.
The box can be left simple or you could decorate it in any way you like. I know many people who decorate these healing boxes with glitter, sequins, pictures, written prayers, or shells. As for myself I like to decorate the outside with the Golden Mean Spiral since this spiral in sacred geometry contains much healing abilities. The Golden Mean Spiral is found throughout life and is very powerful.
The bottom inside of the box should be fitted with a piece of blue felt cut to size. Inside, under the lid, a small mirror should be glued with the mirror facing the inside when the lid is closed. This magnifies and keeps the healing energy inside. You can purchase small cut mirrors at any craft store for about 50 cents.
Next, light a candle to St Camillus and ask for the box to contain his essence, love, and strength for the purpose of healing those in need. While the candle burns the box is left to the right of the candle, yet away from the heat of it and should remain there until the candle is consumed.
Once the candle goes out, place a prayer card or a printed image of St Camillus inside the box which was previously sprayed lightly with Holy Water, this should remain inside at all times. You can also place other items inside to further add healing strength.....such as a clear quartz (quartz magnifies).
To the box you can then add hand written names or photos of those who need healing. The names or photos are kept inside the box until relief from their illness is granted. Once granted, the name or photo of the person is left on the grounds of the church. Some people like to burn the names or photos but I feel that burning an image or the representation of a person is too harsh. Leaving them in the church seems to me the proper way to go.
Once a week you offer St Camillus prayer asking for his intersession in healing and the outside of the box is lightly misted with Holy Water. This is a very good way of sending healing to anyone in need and is powerful in absent healing.
Saint Camillus Prayer for Healing
Lord God, you taught us that the commandments of heaven are summarized in love, of you and our neighbor. Father, you gave your faithful servant St. Camillus, a very special love for the sick. Through his example and inspiration we pray for your grace so that we may be faithful in our commitment of love for those entrusted to our care. Saint Camillus, your compassion for the sick led you to found the Servants of the Sick. Infuse this sacred box of healing with your compassionate spirit. Amen.

Preparing a New Statue
When bringing a new statue into your home it should first be properly prepared..... not only to remove the mixture of accumulated outside energies but to also personalize the image or to dedicate it for a special use. There are many ways you can achieve this personalization.
The first thing that should be done is to spiritually fumigate the image to clean away unwanted energy. This can be done through smudging. My favorites is Church Incense, also called “Gloria Incense”.
Some good cleansing incense include Myrrh, Frankincense, Hyssop, and Copal. Dry herbs used for cleansing includes ruda (rue), rosemary, and sage. Sage is another one of my favorites. If you choose to go with another type of store bought incense or another type of dry herb make sure it has cleansing and purification properties associated with it.
To fix a statue for a specific purpose, this is one of my favorite methods, take the statue and set it on top of a piece of wood that is at least a quarter inch in thickness. With a pencil trace the shape of the base of the statue onto the board. Remove the statue and draw another circle inside the shape of the states base shape. You can freehand the inner circle. Now here is when you need your witchie craftiness. With a jigsaw or a scroll saw, cut out the shape of the base and then cut out the inside of the inner circle. You end up with a wooden ring.
Take that ring and glue it to the bottom of the statue. Since you traced the shape of the base your cutout should fit to the bottom of the statue perfectly. Once this is dry you can place anything inside the cutout to personalize the statue. Maybe you want to place some herbs, dried flowers, roots, small pieces of gemstones or quartz, pictures, or maybe even a written prayer. I like this method since you don’t actually alter the statue itself by drilling holes into it.

St Expedite House Charm for Luck
Horseshoe
St Expedite oil
Red string, yarn, or embroidery floss
St Expedite prayer card
Small quartz
St Expedite candle
Take the horseshoe (you can find these at most flea markets or antique stores; sometimes feed stores will have them too) and apply the St Expedite oil all over it. Next take the red string and wrap it around the entire horseshoe, starting from one end and ending at the other. When you are finished wrapping the horseshoe make sure to secure the end well so that it doesn’t unravel.
Take the St Expedite prayer card and find a way to attach it to the back of the wrapped horseshoe so that it’s secure. I will usually cut a piece of cardboard large enough to reach both sides of the horseshoe, glue the cardboard to the back of the horseshoe and attach the prayer card to the front of the cardboard. If you use this idea you also have the choice of decorating the visible parts of the cardboard with glitter, ribbon, or any other material. The prayer card should be at the top of the horseshow ends (the horseshoe will be used with the two ends as the top and the curved part as the bottom).
Next take the small quartz crystal and tie some red string to one end and tie the other end of the string to the bottom center of the “U” part on the horseshoe, directly under the prayer card. You don’t want the quartz to hang really low....it should hang down from the horseshoe about 2 inches or so.
When you have this all put together the horseshoe should be hung over the main entrance of your home to attract good luck there. It can either be hung outdoors or indoors, as long as it’s hung above the main entrance to the home. The first day when the lucky horseshoe is constructed you should burn a candle for St Expedite and from then on offer him a candle on the first Wednesday of every month.

Honey Jar Spell
The honey jar can be used for influencing someone with kindness. Use it for sparking someone’s interest in you, for a boss to give you a raise or promotion, for recognition, or to settle disputes.
Needed:
Glass Jar With Lid
Sugar
Honey
Taper Candle
Spiritual Oil
White Dressmakers Pin
Targets Photo
Personal Items Optional
White Plate
Select the appropriate oil for your goal. If you are making a honey jar for romantic goals use a love or romance oil. If the jar is for influencing your boss use a money or special favors oil. You can also use crown of success oil for pretty much anything.
I like to dress the inside of the jar with oil first, covering the entire inside of the jar and the underside of the lid. Next take the targets photo (the person the work is being done on ;-) and dress the four corners with the oil.
If you don’t have a photo of the person you can write their name on a piece of paper torn from a brown bag. I like to rip the paper.... straight edges give me the willies. Place the photo or name paper in the jar. If you have any other personal items that belong to the target person such as nail clippings, hair, place those in the jar too.
Other items you can add are honeysuckle or rose petals for love and romance, a short description of a desired pay raise for bosses, a silver coin for asking money favors.
Now drop some sugar on top of the items to cover. I like to use white sugar for people who have light complexions, light brown sugar for medium complexions, and dark brown sugar for dark complexions. Now fill the entire jar with honey. Place the lid on the jar and then set the jar on top of the white plate.
Take the dressmakers pin and carve the side of the candle with a very short description of your desire. Dress the candle with the oil from the bottom up and stick the dressmakers pin lengthwise in the center of the candle.
Light the candle and allow some of the wax to fall on the center of the lid in order to hold the candle in place. You will need to have a lot of wax on the lid so that the candle doesn’t fall over.
Candle color 101.....use red for romantic goals, green for money or white for all purpose
If you have opted to write the targets name on paper this is how it’s done. Write the targets full name 7 times, each one on its own line. Women’s names should include the maiden name if possible and men’s names should include any tag names such as Sr or Jr. Now turn the paper to the right 90 degrees and write your entire name over the targets name 9 times, again each on its own line. The finished names will resemble a “cross” or a “grid”.
Your name is written OVER the targets name and written MORE times as a symbol of dominance over the person.
Allow the candle to burn for 9 minutes every day until it is consumed. It should take several days before the candle is fully used. This is enough time for your desire to manifest. Once the candle is gone, place the plate and jar in a protective bag...I just use a grocery bag.....and save it somewhere safe from nosey people. You can light another candle on top of it if you need to later.

Lodestones
Lodestone, also called magnetite, is a stone with nature magnetic qualities. These qualities led to the use of lodestones as an early form of compass, since they could be used to point the way north. Magnetite is a form of iron oxide. Being magnetized, the stone is attracted to the Earth's magnetic pole, and when it is suspended in the air, it will slowly turn to point towards the pole.
On the old days, sailors used lodestones in their navigation. This is what probably paved the way to creating magnetic compasses and other more sophisticated navigational aides. Ancient miners would follow a lodestone which led them to other minerals. Early medical practitioners used lodestones as diagnostic tools. They believed that the stones could be used to cure certain medical conditions. Greeks began using magnets for healing around 2500 B.C.E. The ancients thought that lodestone could be used to keep the skin looking youthful. In fact, Cleopatra was reported to have slept on a lodestone for many years.
In spellwork, lodestones are used to attract something that you desire. The stones are widely used for attracting money, business success, and to find a mate.
Used in love spells lodestones must be carefully selected to their gender. There are male and female species. The male lodestones have points and edges while the females are more smooth and rounded. A male and a female stone are chosen for heterosexual relationships while stones of the same gender are chosen for same sex relationships. Also, when choosing a pair of lodestones for love related spells you should consider matching the stones. This is a difficult job and you could literally spend hours and not make a match. Luckily many of the botanicas that carry lodestones will match them for you. Once you have your matched pair of stone they should be baptized. This creates a link between the stone and the person. To baptize the stone to the person hold the stone in your dominate hand (I like to use the dominate hand in these cases since it symbolizes your control over the matter) sprinkle the stone with Holy Water and say “you are now born (name of person) and make the sign of the cross over the stone. Then do the same thing with the other stone.
When lodestones are employed for the purpose of drawing money, business success, or luck, you would choose a single stone which you are more drawn to. The gender of the stone is not important for these needs nor is the polarity.
After choose a lodestone to perform a magical task the lodestones should be dressed with a spiritual oil. If you are employing a lodestone for love related matters then dress the stone with an appropriate love drawing oil. If the stones are employed for business success, then dress it with business oil. No mater what the ob of your lodestones there is a spiritual oil which matches that need.
Lodestones that are spiritually working (used in a spell) need proper care in order to keep the energies working for you. Lodestones need to be fed. This is done by simply sprinkling a small amount of magnetic sand or iron filings on the stone.
The stones once they are dressed can be placed in a small fabric bag which is carried in the pocket or purse. Money and business drawing stones can be placed in the cash register drawer or in the money safe.

Palo Santo
Palo Santo (holy wood) is one of my most favorite medicinal and magical helpers. It’s very powerful for any kind of spiritual work, energy work, magical work, and medicinal needs.
Burserea graveolens (botanical name) is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.
It can be used to treat a number of ailments such as colds, flu, skin infections, wounds, flexibility, coughs, allergies, asthma, dermatitis, acne, panic attacks, anxiety, headaches, migraines, reduce tension, sprains and other injuries, relieve pain, control convulsions, and a natural mosquito repellent!
On a mental level Palo Santo is used to uplift the mood, assist with depression, calms the mind, deepens meditation, enhances concentration, promotes creativity and learning, and eases worry.
If more people knew how to use this wood medicinally the drugstores would be out of business...hehehe
In spiritual practices Palo Santo can be used to clear away negative energy while at the same time attracting good luck. It can also be used for purification, cleansing, remove spirits, end misfortune, attract fortune, end bad luck, remove curses, hexes, spells and other spiritual conditions.
When I feel a little drained from being around too much negativity I’ll bath with some of this wood. It can be placed in your tub water and before getting out the wood is rubbed over the body. Presto! The negativity is removed and drains away with the water. It’s even believed that Merlin’s magical staff was made Palo Santo...hmmmm figure that.

Easter Facts
When taking a bite into a chocolate bunny, 76% of Americans prefer to bite off the ears first. 5% eat the feet first and 4% eat the tail first (eeew!).
During the Easter season, Americans buy more than 700 million Peeps - making Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy (Go Peeps!).
Adults prefer milk chocolate (65%) over dark chocolate (27%) (discrimination?).
86% would prefer having chocolate bunnies instead of a live rabbit (nowhere near as cuddly).
Each day throughout the year, 5 million marshmallow chicks and bunnies are produced in preparation for Easter (and 10 seconds later 5 million more bunnies appear).
16 billion jelly beans are made specifically for Easter which is enough to fill a plastic egg the size of a 9-story building (how big was the chicken?).
Kids prefer red jelly beans and 75% are willing to do extra chores for more Easter candy (start your chore list today).
57% of kids get up super early on Easter to see what the Easter bunny has brought them (disregard any funny looking pellets).
In the old days pretzels were associated with Easter because the twists of the pretzel were thought to resemble arms crossing in prayer.
Red jelly beans are kids’ favorite.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records the largest Easter egg ever made was just over 25 feet high and made of chocolate and marshmallow. The egg weighed 8,968 lbs. and was supported by an internal steel frame (can you imagine finding a 25 foot egg in your basket?).
Nearly 120 million cards with be sent, exchanged, and given this Easter, which means it holds the fourth spot of the largest card-sending celebration in the U.S (at least that is what Hallmark says).
In medieval times, a festival of ‘egg-throwing’ was held in church. The priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choir boys, and then tossed from one choir boy to the next. When the clock struck 12, whoever held the egg, was the winner and got to keep the egg (and thus began “kill the man with the egg”).

San Ramon Spell: To Stop Gossip
You need:
1 printed photo of San Ramon or a prayer card
1 glass encased San Ramon candle
1 new dime
1 black dressmakers pin
The person name who is doing the gossip written on paper in black ink
A small piece of fresh chili pepper (any kind, the hotter the better)
a wad of chewing gum (already chewed by you)
Directions:
With the black dressmakers in carve the name of the person who is doing the gossiping around the wick of the candle. Light the candle to San Ramon and say the prayer that is printed on the back of the candle.
Next take the photo of San Ramon and stick the wad of chewing gum over his mouth and place the dime over the gum. The dime should be face up. The gum should hold the dime in place but if it doesn’t you can hold it down with a piece of clear tape.
Take the name of the gossiper written on the paper with black ink and set the small piece of chili pepper over the center of the name. Then wrap the name paper around the chili. And say..... “(name of person) your mouth will burn like fire every time you say my name.”
Place everything in front of the candle. Allow the candle to burn for as long as you wish every day. At least once a day pick up the image with the chewing gum and say..... “(name of person) by the power of San Ramon....shut your mouth!” And then pick up the name paper with the chili and say the same thing as before. Continue this daily ritual until the candle is consumed.
HaHa.....if you see someone drinking lots of water you know why!

Money Magic: Green Fixed Rice
Hello my fellow spiritualists,
Well today I would like to share with you how to make your own lucky green fixed rice. If you were to purchase this stuff in a botanica or spiritual store you are going to get your eyes poked with the high cost of this stuff. OUCH! Actually, for whatever reason many botenicas don't even carry it.
Green fixed rice is used to attract luck, money, prosperity, business success, to draw in customers, to increase sales, and to bring good luck in all areas. Who couldn't use a bit of extra luck anyway? This stuff is great! I give it out to my clients all the time and they always give me terrific feedback about it and always want more.
For Use in the Home
With the front door closed stand outside and throw a small handful of rice at the door to attract good luck, money and prosperity. You can also put some of the rice in your wallet or purse to attract money. If you want good news or if you are expecting money through the mail place some in your mailbox. Put some rice on the telephone receiver to bring good news. Sprinkle some under door mats or place some of the rice in an open container near the front door.
For Use in the Business
Take a small handful of the rice and throw it on the roof business to attract customers who are willing to spend their money with you. You can also place some under door mats at the main entrance. Place some rice in places where money is kept like the safe, the cash register and inside money bags. You can also place some rice in an open container near the main entrance. Place some on the telephone to bring profitable business calls or scatter it in your parking lot.
You must say a short prayer over the rice to awaken its power. Recite the following prayer......
By the power of the Holy Spirit, I call upon the forces of the elements to awaken the positive energies of this substance before me. Amen.
Next Say 1 Our Father.....
Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. Amen.
When you’re finished, make the sign of the cross over the rice and it’s ready for use.
Each time you use the rice say “In Jesus name bring me good luck” or “In Jesus name bring in customers” You can say whatever it is you need but make the request as short and to the point as possible. If there is any leftover rice it should be renewed with the above prayer every first Friday of the month.
How to Make the Rice
To make a small amount of green fixed rice place 1 cup of regular white rice in a glass jar. Add 5 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol to the jar and 1 tablespoon Holy Water and squirt in some green feed coloring. Place the lid on the jar and shake it up to distribute the color. If you want more of a green tint, just add more food coloring.
Once all the rice it green, pour it all out onto several layers of paper towels. Spread it out and allow it to dry. Since you used rubbing alcohol the drying process won’t take long since alcohol evaporates quickly.

Mind-Body-Spirit Connection - Energy Healing
For those of you who have visited my website you have noticed the free informational documents I have there. I have been getting a lot of emails from inquiring minds recently asking me about the Homeopathy doc and why I included it. Okay fair enough, so I’ll explain.
As a Curandera I am very involved in healing, among many other things...(shhh) Over the years I have seen many people who suffer with health problems who cannot afford medical care because of the outrageous cost. Some of these people have been prescribed medications which eventually caused further problems. It’s really sad......no wonder why these guys drive Mercedes.
On the spiritual side of things, energy is within everything. The energy of illness can remain long after the illness is gone. This energy is disruptive and can cause many disturbances in ones life. In order to remove the lingering affects of illness a limpia (spiritual cleansing) is the only way to free it from the body. Because of the powerful way energies alone play a role in life I fully believe that healing must be approached as a whole....mind-body-spirit....the three are interconnected, not separate areas. You simply can’t heal illness in one area without regard to the remainder.
This mind-body-spirit connection is seen not only in healing but also in spellwork and other spiritual undertakings. For instance, when someone is doing spellwork to increase the success of a business they will usually include spiritual cleansing of the structure (floor washing) and possibly on themselves as well (spiritual bathing).
In my search for helping the sick (outside of energy healing) I have only come across one other method of medical treatment which closely resembles my belief in the mind-body-spirit approach. This method is Homeopathy. Homeopathy heals with the “energy” of a substance, nothing like Western Medicine where years later the pharmaceuticals prescribed are found to cause major damage to the body (by suppression). Homeopathy is an all natural (not herbal) form of treatment which actually “cures” illness instead of suppressing it.
Homeopathy fits in quite well to spiritual healing in that it uses energy in healing. Its method stimulates what is termed the “Vital Force” of the individual and centers on a balance between mind, body and spirit. In this way, Homeopathy corroborates my understanding and has expanded my knowledge of healing to a marked degree.
Homeopathy is also safe, natural, and very affordable....costing only pennies for acute treatment compared to the hundreds or thousands of dollars spent on Western Physicians who only “suppress” illness, never “curing” it. Read many of the over the counter medications and they confess to the “suppression” right on the label (cough suppressant). A popular pharmaceutical TV commercial says “it’s all about suppression”. One good thing is that anyone can learn this method of healing without having to become a doctor in order to use it. But the best thing is that it “cures” and is very affordable to those people I have met who can’t afford medical doctors and suffer because of it.
This idea of suppression is very fundamental to our normal medical system, yet is a double edged sword to the problem of illness. Consider that you have a boiling pot that represents the symptoms of illness. You put a lid on that pot (suppressing it). No more symptoms. But, the boiling just looks for another outlet. The symptoms just change to something else to find an outlet. Then they are suppressed again. It is a vicious circle.
The whole idea of mind-body-spirit is very important in achieving balance in every aspect of living. On a spiritual level the mind-body-spirit idea strengthens spellwork to a great extent because it connects each of these areas giving power to the work. As many of you already know the more items you can connect to the person the stronger your work will be.
Because of my strong belief in the mind-body-spirit connection in all aspects of life (physical and spiritual), I include homeopathic principles. I myself have found it to be a very effective for my own needs and work. If any of my readers are interested in leaning more about this, there is a great Homeopath whom I am associated with here on blogspot. http://www.likecure.blogspot.com/ He is the one who helped me write the Homeopathic document on my website and is a wealth of information on the subject.
I hope this answers the questions people have been asking me about the subject. As always, keep the questions coming....I love ‘em!

San Cipriano: Patron St of Magicians, Sorcerers, and Witchcraft
There are two legends of San Cipriano....the first legend says that....
San Cipriano (St Cyprian of Antioch) was born in Carthage (249-251). As a child his parents dedicated him to the service of Apollo and when Cyprian was only seven years old his parents gave him to magicians where he would study sorcery and pagan ways. During his youth he traveled to many places learning the occult from some of the best known masters. His travels took him to Mount Olympus, there he learned to control weather conditions. At age ten he went to Argos and served the Goddess Juno where he learned the art of deception. During another voyage he went to Sparta, there he learned the rites of Necromancy. When Cyprian was twenty he traveled to Egypt where he stayed for ten years studying to cast powerful spells and incantations. By the time he was thirty he went to the Chaldeans to master the science of astrology, and it was there that he completed his study.
He eventually took the career as a professional sorcerer and did very well in the business. Soon after opening shop Cyprian met Justina, a young Christian woman, and fell madly in love with her. He tried to gain her love through sorcery and even conjured powerful spirits for assistance but nothing worked. Every day Justina prayed and marked herself with the sign of the cross which protected her. Every time one of Cyprian’s magical attempts failed he tried stronger and more powerful ones...each one failing. Cyprian was so impressed with the power of the Cross and Justina beliefs of prayer the he eventually gave up his pagan ways and became a Christian.
....the second legend is that....
Cyprian never renounce sorcery, he secretly practiced it alongside of his Christian front. It’s believed that
Cyprian and Justina became a magical dynamic duo. Legend tells that Cyprian recorded much of his occult knowledge in a secret book which is still circulating today.
Working with San Cipriano
Feast day: September 16
Day of the week: Saturday
Color: Purple
Number 9
Altar cloths can be purple. To incorporate the number 9 you can either place 9 objects on his altar, give him 9 different offerings or give him the same offering 9 times, recite nine prayers, or light 9 candles. Saturdays are most powerful for spellwork.
Taking On the Essence of a Spirit
When I’m working with a powerful spirit whom I feel a strong connection with I like to perform a simple daily ritual to ask for his/her assistance in daily life. I also like to ask that they (he/she) accept me as follower and a student and grant that they pass their knowledge and abilities to me. In other words, I like to take on their essence. Here is how I go about this.....
Get an image of San Cipriano....a statue, a prayer card, or a printed photo and a photo of yourself. The image gets placed on a surface of its own (shared with nothing else)....to the right side. Your photo is placed in front of the image, facing outwards. A white candle is placed towards the left of the image. Next take a clear glass with no markings, no designs....just a simple clear drinking glass. Fill the glass with filtered tap water and place it in between the image and the candle, and a crucifix is placed on top of the glass. Light the candle and recite this prayer.....
In the name of Jesus,
I invoke San Cipriano through this prayer and charge it with my devotion.
San Cipriano, take me as your loyal and humble follower.
Grant me your protection and liberate me of any danger and harm from my enemies.
Move away all dangers and harm that surround me.
I call on the powerful spirit of San Cipriano,
and ask that you bless this water I place before you.
Empower it with your wisdom and knowledge.
Grant that when I drink this water dedicated to you,
that I take into my body your wisdoms, secrets, and spiritual power.
Grant that it contains the necessary secrets to give strength to all me goals.
I offer this light with love. amen
Allow the glass to remain for 24 hours. When you wake up the next morning take three sips of the water and pour the rest out. Refill the glass for drinking the next morning. The prayer should be recited once a week.

San Martin Caballero Money Amulet
Needed:
1 old rusty horseshoe
Red string, yarn, or embroidery floss
San Martin prayer card
Money oil
A piece of cardboard, 5 x 7
Three new quarters
Sequins, glitter and other decorations
San Martin candle
Procedure:
Wrap the entire horseshoe from end to end with red embroidery floss. You can also use red yarn or any kind of red string but I think the finished item looks much nicer when wrapped in floss. Leave about an inch of the horseshoe unwrapped on each end. When you’re done wrapping the horseshoe secure the ends so that it doesn’t unravel. You might want to put a dab of glue over the knots for extra security.
This amulet will be use to hang on the wall in the direction a “U” would be written. The bottom of the amulet is the curved part of the horseshoe and the top of the amulet will be the part with the two ends.
Now take the prayer card and attach it to the center of the cardboard backing. The reason I suggest to use the cardboard backing is because the prayer card is not large enough or wide enough to fit onto the center opening of the horseshoe...the backing is the perfect size. Now attach the cardboard backing with the prayer card to the back of the horseshoe opening, in between the two ends.
Attach the three new quarters around the prayer card.....one at the top and two at the bottom. This would be a good time to decorate the cardboard that’s showing and to make the amulet a little more decorative. Some ideas for decoration could be glitter, sequins, nuts, roots, stones, small crosses, beans, or grains.
Once that’s finished, burn a candle to San Martin and ask for his blessings on this amulet. Take the amulet and dress it with the money oil....one drop on the very center of the horseshoe at the point of the curve....and one drop on each end. Place the amulet in front of the candle and leave it there until the candle is consumed. Hang it over the main entrance of your home or business.

Eat carrots! I know you were thinking of something else.....but first eat the carrots. Did you know that raw carrots are a great aphrodisiac for men? Yeah, even back in ancient time carrots symbolized male sexuality and the high vitamins and beta-carotene are believed to be male stimulants.
Pine Nuts
Yet another hot food item....pine nuts! Pine nuts have zinc mineral which is necessary to maintain male potency which pine nuts happen to be loaded with...no pun intended.
So now you guys are screaming “what about us, Concha!”. Well guys, you can feed your favorite gal any of these food items. They are all known to stimulate the female system: nuts, coconut milk, cheese, strawberries, bananas, or chocolate...hmmmmm maybe that’s why these are so popular on Valentine’s Day. Honestly, finger foods (any finger foods) are the way to go!!!
On another note, I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming interest in the email courses. They are just about filled up and I know everyone will learn a lot. Have a GREAT V-Day!!!

Love, Love, Love
Saludos (greetings), with Valentines Day just around the corner I felt a love spell would be in order. Did you know that in ancient Rome, February 15 was Lupercalia, the festival of Lupercus, the god of fertility? During this time they held a purification ritual. The priests of Lupercus would sacrifice goats and a dog to the god, after drinking wine they would run through the streets hitting everyone with pieces of the goat skin. Women would actually try really hard to be slapped with this stinky goat skin because they believed it would make them fertile.....hmmmm, interesting, but think I’ll pass on that, thanks.....
Hummingbird (Chuparosa) Love Spell
You will need:
2 red taper candles
1 white plate
1 photo each of yourself and the target person
3 photos of a hummingbird (you can print these from the net)
Honeysuckle oil
Attraction oil
2 Red dressmakers pins
Paper
Red ink pen
1 small magnet
1 small felt or cotton pouch (large enough for the magnet)
Directions:
Take the white plate and dress the bottom of the plate with the honeysuckle oil, now dress the rim of the plate with the same oil, each time applying the oil with your marriage finger. Even though you may not be looking for marriage at this time you should still use the marriage finger since it represent commitment. With one of the red dressmakers pins carve the name of the target person on one of the red candles. The name should begin at the bottom of the candle and end towards the top. When you’re finished inscribing the name of the person dress their candle with attraction oil. Make sure to apply the oil from the bottom of the candle to the top near the wick. Take the pin you used to carve this candle and stick it in the candle about 1 inch from the top and set the candle aside. In a love spell, this area of the candle represents the “heart” of the person. Now take the other red candle and carve your name into the wax with the other red dressmakers pin. The inscription is written in the same direction....from the bottom to the top. When you’re done, dress your candle with the honeysuckle oil, again from the bottom to the top of the candle. Set the red dressmakers pin that you carved your name with aside. This does not get stuck into your candle! Now with the red ink pen and paper, write a short yet straight forward request of what you want from the target person.....marriage, dating, serious relationship, commitment, etc. now take the photos of yourself and the target person and dress the four corners of each photo with the attraction oil. Place the photos together facing each other and place one of the hummingbird photos on each side, facing inwards. So now you have your photo and the target person’s photo facing each other and a hummingbird on each side, all facing inwards. Get the red dressmakers pin you used to carve your name and use it to pin all the photos together. This stack of photos is placed underneath the white plate. Light each of the candles and allow some of the wax to drip on the plate so that the wax will hold your candle securely. Make sure to get enough wax on the plate so that there is no chance of the candles falling over later. Once you have done that, take the remaining hummingbird photo and place it on top of the plate, facing upwards. Now take the magnet and dress one side of it with attraction oil (target person) and the other side of it with honeysuckle oil (you) and place the magnet on the plate directly in the center of the hummingbird photo. Now recite the following hummingbird prayer. Here I give this prayer in both the Spanish and the English translations.
Al Poder de la Chuparosa
Divina Chupparosa,
tu que por el Poder divino
endulzas y alegras las cosas
quiero que endulces
mi vida y alegres mi corazon
ya que por tu divina intercession
he de venecar a mi amado(a)
y solo sea para mi
y asi como chupas la miel de las flores,
chupa la sal y mala suerte que tengo,
y asi en todo vencer,
novenario te he de hacer,
para que tu no me divides y me traigas
al ser amado fiel y lleno de amor.
Divine Hummingbird,
Who enriches and glorifies
Everything with your Holy Power,
I ask that you enrich my life and love
With your Divine Intercession
So that my lover
Will want only me.
In the same way that you extract honey from flowers,
Extract all misfortune and bad luck
From my life;
I pray you will not forget me,
So that my lover and I may share a relationship
That is honest and true
Allow the candles to burn out. Once they are consumed take the magnet on the hummingbird picture and place them in the small pouch. Carry this with you.
Until next time, bendiciones (blessings)

Spiritual Illness: Mal de Ojo (The Evil Eye)
Hola Espiritistas (spiritualists),
Today brings me to a subject that I have been getting a lot of questions about.....Mal Ojo...since just recently I met up with a woman who was suffering with it.
Envy and the evil eye have been feared for hundreds of years. The oldest reference of the evil eye can be found in the texts of the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians, around 3000 BC. Both the Old and New Testaments refer to the evil eye. I read somewhere that the ancient Egyptians believed that if they wore eye makeup and lipstick it would help to keep the evil eye from entering into their eyes or mouths. Can you imagine living in those times, carelessly walking around the city without wearing lipstick, minding your own business, and all of a sudden a big fat mal ojo would fly into your mouth...yuk!
Most people today believe the evil eye is caused by the envious look of another person. The envy of the person, although they mean no harm, is transferred to the other and therefore is the cause of the illness. Back in the old day’s people believed that the evil eye could be transferred to another person either purposely or unintentionally. Also, today people believe that the evil eye mostly affects young children and babies but our ancestors believed that anyone was at risk. Why has this belief changed over the years? hmmmmm....
It’s my belief that mal ojo can affect men, women, children, teens, babies, animals, plants, and even your surroundings. The illness is as real...the energy it carries is real. I have seen many cases of it in all its forms, and have witnessed its power. You cannot cure a person of the evil eye and not expect to heal the persons home and surroundings as well. Like everything else, the evil eye carries a particular energy with it. Its energy is bad just as the illness is. It leaves behind the power to cause further damage such as obstacles, anger, fatigue, phantom pains in the body, and even other illnesses can surface. Without removing that energy attached to the evil eye you will leave behind its influence.
Some of the more common symptoms related to the evil eye are...
Diarrhea
Colic
Dehydration
Sensitivities
Fussiness
Anger
Loss of Appetite
Insomnia
Vomiting
Crying
Sadness
Fear
Stomach Pains
Weakness
Fatigue
The first thing that should be done is to cure the person who has this spiritual illness; afterwards the home should be spiritually cleansed. Sometimes this can be difficult. The way I would go about it is to first give the person a limpia with egg. This will accomplish two things. First, it will show the severity of the spiritual illness, and secondly it will remove some of it from the person.
In earlier blog entries I have talked about the ability of the egg, in its raw from, to remove negativity from the body, I have also talked about how to do a basic limpia. Once the spiritual cleansing has been performed you would then break the egg into a glass of water and look for signs in the yolk or in the whites. Many times when a person has the evil eye you will see the shape of an eye somewhere on the yolk itself. Other times the eye can be found in the whites of the egg. You will have to look closely at the contents of the glass but once you do find the eye it will stand out....it looks just like an eyeball. Once you have inspected the egg you can dispose of it in the toilet.
You may have to do more than one cleansing on the person. You will eventually come to the point where the entire evil eye has been removed. You will know this....again by the sign of the yolk. Now you are looking for what I call “the line of separation”. This will be a solid white line that goes from one side of the yolk to the other, sometimes it goes all around the entire yolk, it sort of looks like a white string tied around the yolk itself. Once you see this line you know that the evil eye is completely gone.
In the meantime there are ways you can speed up the removal. One way if speeding this up is to get a small white plate, no designs, no patterns. Place a small glass of water on the center of a plate, a photo or holy card of El Nino de Atocha under the glass...if the person afflicted is a child....or the photo of St Michael if the person is an adult. Next sprinkle rosemary around the base of the glass. Take an egg, still in the shell, and hold it to the soles of the feet of the afflicted person for about 10 minutes. Now break the egg into the glass of water and place the plate and all its contents under the bed where they will sleep. In the morning check for signs in the water. You may find spots of blood or the water may have a bad odor. These are good signs that more is being drawn out of the person.
Until next time,

The Ouija Board
Saludos Brujas y Brujos. This is one of my favorite topics.....the ouija board.
These talking boards were extremely popular from 1900 through the 1950’s. At one time almost every home in America had one.
During the mid 1800’s at a time when the supernatural, spiritism and connecting with the dead peaked everyone’s interest ouija boards became popular and many people employed them as a parlor game. Adolphus Theodore Wagner was the first patented ouija boards, in London, England on January 23, 1854. In the patent, Wagner called his invention a “psychograph” and its purpose was to read the minds of people with “nervous energy”. Hmmm....what an idea.... lets find out what’s going on in the minds of the unstable.
In 1861, a Frenchman named Allan Kardac, described the ouija board as an instrument used to open communications with the spirit world. This is when the ouija board evolved from a mind-reader to a way of communicating with the dead.
Years later a guy named William Fuld got his hands on the idea, made a few changes and patented his new boards, afterwards selling his patent to Parker Brothers in 1966. The original boards are nothing like the ones we see today. Parker Brothers marketed the boards under the tagline, “It's only a game - isn't it?” Other people have also ran with the idea and made money from it.
In the 1920’s the ouija board was so popular that many of the large newspapers ran weekly columns on how to use the boards. I would love to get my hands on these original newsprints.
These boards were so popular that Norman Rockwell was inspired to paint an ouija cover for the May 1st 1920 edition of the Saturday Evening Post and believe it or not there were at least 2 popular songs written about them which were released in the 1920's. One such song was “Wee Gee” and a line from that song goes something like this..... “Wee gee, wee gee, tell me do, tell me if my loving baby loves me” ... sounds kinda hip huh? The Ouija Board has been manufactured now for over 100 years.
I’m sure many of you, like myself, have dabbled in the mystery of this phenomena. Knowing the potential and dangers of this board I’m not sure how they can get away with selling it to kids since it’s always found in the toy department and sold as a game. This is not a game I would purchase for anyone. Think about it..... This board has no electronically moving parts, and no batteries, it’s just a flat surface that you set a plastic pointer on top. Yet when you place your hands on the planchet it begins to move without any force of your own. So..... what is moving the pointer? Some of you have to know what I’m talking about....you can feel a “force” or “something” moving it....right?
In my opinion you are actually linking to the world of the spirit. What spirit? All of them! You can never be sure who comes through. It doesn’t matter if you have asked to speak with Aunt Molly or Uncle Albert. Asking to speak to a specific person does not guarantee that you will. The ouija brings many spirits, good and evil. Lower level spirits are known to lie and pretend to be someone you know, making the unsuspected user believe they have contacted their loved one. You can always ask for proof by having them answer a question that only Aunt Molly would know......but in your mind you know the answer.....just by thinking the answer you give it away.....your thoughts are instantly heard by the spirits, telepathically. Even if you don’t consciously sit there thinking of the answer to your question you already gave them the answer just by coming up with the question. Did I lose you? Why did you choose that particular question? Duh, because you know the answer, you already had the answer in your mind the moment you thought of the question.
Aleister Crowley told how he used the ouija board and that was put into text by Edward Cornelius. A friend of mine turned me on to the book titled “Aleister Crowley and the Ouija Board” pictured above. It’s an interesting read for curious minds.

Spiritual Illness: Susto
Susto is a spiritual illness that is caused when a person experiences a sudden shock or a traumatic event in their life. This is also known as “Fright”, “Soul Loss”, or “Loss Of The Shadow”. When a person has susto it’s believed that their soul leaves the psychical body, unable to find its way back. Many things can cause soul loss, depending upon the person. Some things that are frightening to one person may not be frightening to another. The signs of susto are wide and can never completely be foretold because like I said... everyone is different... but some of the most common signs are....
Irritability
Easily Startled
Heart Palpitations
Inability To Move On
Anxiety
Fear That It Will Happen Again
Feeling That Something Is Missing Or Of Being Lost
Unexplained Sadness
Lack Of Appetite
Loss Of Interest In Self
Crying
Feeling That Something Will Happen
Nervousness
Involuntary Muscle Tics
Drowsiness During The Day
Insomnia During The Night
If you took this list of symptoms to a western medical doctor he would most likely diagnose this as depression and prescribe some kind of anti-depressant pharmaceutical. In curanderismo it’s treated with either herbal tea or ritual cleansings to restore the balance in the body and allow the soul to return.
There are mild forms of susto and more complicated forms of it. Western medicine will diagnose according to the “symptoms” a person has while curanderismo will diagnose according to the “individual”. This means that a curandera will take into account the person, their experiences, their mode of thinking, their fears, their patterns of living, and the event that they feel lead them to her. From all this information the curandera will know how to deal with that person’s particular type of susto.
In the mild forms susto is cured by a simple spiritual ceremony. In the more complicated forms of susto the ceremony is more involved and longer. Since susto is believed to be a very serious matter whether in the mild or severe forms, the curandera will usually have an assistant to help with prayers.
An area on the floor is chosen and sprayed with Holy Water to cleanse the space and to bring in blessings. The curandera would have the person lay down on the floor and instructed to place their arms out to the side and to keep the feet together, forming a “cross” with the body. Four white candles are blessed and lit. The candles are then placed near the feet, the head and the two hands of the person. The person is asked to stay in this position and silently pray to his/her soul to return while the curandera makes an herbal broom with fresh twigs of rosemary, basil, and rue which are tied together with red string.
Once the herbal broom is made the assistant lights some copal incense and walks around the person making large crosses with the smoke and recites prayers while the curandera sweeps the persons body with the bundle of herbs and calls to the persons soul, coaxing it to return. By the end of the ceremony which usually takes about an hour, everyone is drained of energy and extremely tired. The curandera will have the person sit comfortably and sip some fresh brewed mint tea.
This ceremony is preformed for three days in a row, each day the curandera calls the persons spirit in a louder and in a more forceful manner. By the third day the person is healed. I personally choose to perform the retrieving of the soul on Fridays since this is a very powerful day.
On my website http://www.curiouscurandera.com I will be offering several email courses, one of which is how to perform spiritual cleansings of all kinds. I’m currently trying to finish up the course on spiritual illness and how to heal them.

Spirit Guides, Part 2
It’s important to remember not to use your spirit guides as a crutch for every problem that comes your way. Call on them for the big things or when you have used up all your resources and nothing has come of your efforts. Don’t become too dependent on them. They have to rest too.
Your guides aren't there to tell you how to live or to tell you how to deal with every situation. They are there to give you advice and to guide you spiritually. They will not be answering questions about every worldly situation you have. You are the one here to experience physical life and learn life’s lessons. You can't grow if someone else is telling you every move to make. You should be able to feel when the time is right to ask your spirit guides for advice.
In time you will develop your own ways of contacting and becoming aware of your guides. There are so many methods of contacting your guides but here are some simple methods you can use to practice with. The more you practice, the easier it gets.
I believe that learning to concentrate and be in tune with the spirit realm is very important. Not only for the purpose of contacting spirit guides and other entities but its used in any and all areas of magic, self empowerment and spiritually.
The easiest way for beginners to contact spirit guides is through meditation. If you’ve never meditated before it can be difficult but you can learn with practice and determination. Wipe that sneer off your face....meditation is needed to accomplish many things including your intentions in spellwork.....without focus you get nowhere.
Meditation is a process that slows down mental activity and focuses the mind on a particular outcome. The particular outcome here is to make contact with your guide. For the beginner you probably won’t make contact your first time, probably not your second or third time either. This is something you will need to continually work at to develop and be successful.
When we meditate, we often enter into an altered state of consciousness. There we are able to contact and visualize the spirit realm. In the beginning it’s normal that your thoughts wander. This is why you need practice and patience. You are on the right track when you are able to block out outside noises and keep your mind focused and free from wandering. You can light a candle and some incense and say a prayer if this helps you to relax.
When you are ready to meditate choose a place where you will not be disturbed, either lay down on your back or sit upright with your legs crossed. If you chose to sit, make sure your back is straight so that you can breathe properly. First, begin breathing slowly, with deep, even breaths. Concentrate on your breathing for a while until you are relaxed.
Begin to visualize your astral home. Your astral home will be a place you return to each time you meditate. Your astral home should be a place that is visually stimulating to you. It can be a real place or one you create in your mind. As you begin to visualize your astral home, concentrate on the surroundings and what they look like in detail. When your astral home is visually complete in your mind, begin to walk around and enjoy it for a moment. Look at everything and touch everything. Next, walk to the center of your astral home and sit down. Take in the surroundings and breathe deeply. Begin focusing on the reason you are meditating. Silently, call in your spirit guide.
Start to open up your awareness of their presence. You may see them, feel their presence, hear them, or somehow just know they are there. When you get a sign that they are with you just remain calm and silently be in their presence for several minutes before you begin talking. In your mind ask your guide if they have a message for you. here you can begin asking simple questions like their name, how many guides you have, etc. the first couple of times you make contact keep it simple, short and to the point. Later when you are more experienced you can go into more detailed questions.
When you are ready to end your meeting go back to your astral home and stay there for a few minutes before opening your eyes.
Once you have found your astral home it can be used for many purposes such as remembering dreams, meditation, a bridge to other worlds, spiritual clearing and self empowerment.

Spirit Guides, Part 1
Spirit guides are spirits or entities who usually have lived in physical body at some time. They are here to accompany you on your journey through life, offering help and support when needed. They watch, guide, teach, heal, and lead you to spiritual awareness. Spirit guides help us find and stay on our chosen path and offer information that exists in the universe that we could not otherwise tap in to.
Our connection to spirits guides are beneficial to us in many ways and we in turn are beneficial to them to grow and evolve in their spiritual journey in the spirit world. We all have spirit guides though most people live their entire lives not knowing they exist or simply refusing to believe what they can’t physically see.
The number of spirit guides varies from person to person. Some people have many guides while others only have one. We each have a primary or master guide who is with us from birth to the time of our death. Many people have other guides who may come and go at different times in our life as they are needed.
Spirit guides can be male or female. They can be people we knew in our past lives that we still in this life have a karmic link to, relatives, friends, and roaming spirits who have taken a liking to you and stays to help you. One of these spirits will be there to greet you at your time of death to help your soul pass to the spiritual world easier.
Besides spirit guides we also have angel guides. Angel guides and spirit guides are not the same. Spirit guides have lived in physical body, angels have not, they are messengers of the Divine but like spirit guides angel guides help and protect us as well.
The presence of spirit guides can be subtle or strong and can communicate to us in a number of ways. They may choose to communicate through dreams giving us answers to questions or problems that we face. They could make you dream a particular situation which is in turn the answer to a problem. They may show the events in your dreams as a direction you should take for a good outcome. Guides can also communicate telepathically or during meditation when your mind is free of distractions.
Some may see or hear them talking as if they were right there in the flesh. Usually if your guide wants to be visible they will appear in a form that is most comfortable for you. If your guide appears in a way that you’re not comfortable with all you have to do is ask that they appear in another less frightening form and they will.
Most commonly guides will communicate through symbols, a flash of light, a certain noise, ideas that come to us, images, a feeling, a particular smell, or by touch. When they touch you it could feel like a soft brushing sensation, a hot or cold feeling, a tingling sensation, or a numbness on the area they are touching. When guides communicate they can put their messages in your mind which comes to you as an idea you had for no particular reason or even a crazy idea that doesn’t make sense to us. They can give us images that play like a motion picture in our minds or like several still life images in a row.
Once you begin your journey communicating with your own spirit guides you will be given signs that they are there. It’s up to you to be in tune and identify the signs given. You will notice pattern of particular signs they give when they are trying to come through. Trust in the signs your given, don’t pass them off as your mind playing tricks on you.

Ruda (Rue)
Hola Espiritistas, Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm. Texas has some freaky weather, we are still warm here. One night it can be freezing and the next day it’s in the 80’s....hmmmmm. Today I am starting some rue seeds indoors so it will be large enough to transplant in the spring. I had a nice one already but the unpredictable weather here caught me off guard and it died.
This is great plant for spiritual cleansings. You can take several small twigs and tie them together to make a hand size herbal broom. The broom is then used to sweep the body in a downwards direction to remove spiritual clutter. I just love this plant! The botanical name is Ruta Graveolens.
Other uses for rue in spiritual work are....
breaking witchcraft, clearing spiritual illness, cleansing, purification, exorcism, business success and to attract customers, money spells, healing, love spells, removing obstacles from one’s path, protection from witchcraft, protection from envy, protection from negative energies, protection from evil spirits, protection from enemies, and protection from night attacks.
Ruda works well with rosemary or basil and the three together create some very powerful results.
Element: Fire
Planet: Mars
Gender: Male
Catholic Saints: St. Ignatius of Loyola
Folk Saints: Maximon, Juan Soldado
Orishas/Loas: Elegba, Chango
Other Deities: Thoth, Hecate

Spiritual Tool Chest
Holy Water
Holy Water can be sprinkled over tools and other objects to purify and free them of negative energy. After doing spellwork it can be sprayed throughout the home to remove any traces of negativity. Prior to spellwork you can wash your hands in it for protection.
Salt
Salt is purifying. It’s good to use after performing spellwork to release any negativity you may have collected. Bathing in salt water after rituals will help to keep you from picking up spiritual clutter.
Incense
Incense (spiritual smoke) can be used for spiritually fumigating a person or a place. The choice of incense used determines the desired result.
Charcoal Disks
You will need a supply of charcoal disk used for burning loose incense. These are not the same as the charcoal used in barbeque grills.
Incense Burner
You will need an incense burner or another type of heat proof container to burn incense in. It’s best to have at least two on hand in case you need to burn different incense.
Spray Bottle
A small spray bottle just makes life easier. They can be filled with Holy Water and used to spray yourself, the room or objects. If you get a spray bottle with an adjustment nozzle you will even be able to adjust the amount of water sprayed.
Paper Towels
Another “make life easier” item. Sometimes spellwork requires the use of oils, herbs or powders which at times can get messy and having some paper towels nearby is helpful so that you can easily wipe off your hands. Nothing like doing some serious spellwork and asking the spirits "Uh, hold on a sec so I can wash my hands..."
Small Jars
These can be used in many types of spellwork. If you don’t start a small collection you will wish you had when the time comes when you find yourself looking for one. Baby food jars are the perfect size. I use them for all sorts of stuff like burying something in the ground, or sealing someone inside....hehehe
Oils
Spiritual oils sold in botanicas and are supposedly fixed for different purposes. You can purchase a few of the basics like love oil, success oil, money oil, controlling oil or a domination oil, protection oil, or a Saint oil. I like to always have a small bottle of virgin olive oil in stock too since this is an “all-purpose” oil. I prefer making my own that way I know they are good quality....hey, maybe my next blog entry!
Candles
Candles are almost always used is spellwork so having a selection of spare candles you’ll always be ready for emergencies.
Candle Holders
For free standing candles I like to use small white plates to set my candles on instead of candle holders.
I use some of the wax drippings to hold the candle in place.
Herbs
Herbs are not only used as incense but are also used as additives to spellbags and pouches and used to dress candles. The most basic herbs to keep on hand are rosemary, sage, and cinnamon.
Wooden Matches Or A Lighter
You will need to have something to light your candle with...duh! Keep some matches or a special lighter on hand.
Candle Snuffer
Candles employed in spellwork should always be put out with a candle snuffer or pinched out. Never blow out the flame with your own breath. The candle snuffer is nice to have since it reaches down into the glass candles.
Dressmaker’s Pins
Always keep a supply of brand new dressmaker’s pins around, the ones with the color balls on the end. These come in handy for dolls, marking candles, and pinning photos together.
Paper
Parchment paper or brown paper bags, I like the brown bags the best. You will need paper for writing requests, names, intentions, etc.
Writing instruments
I usually keep pens with different colors of ink which comes in handy for writing in the color of your intention.....red for love matters, green for money matters, etc.
Crucifix
I always have several of these for protection. Brass ones are more powerful but all of them work well.

Creepy Legends
Some of friends and I were watching a documentary last night about legends....it was only a half hour show but wow, really interesting. Okay, I’m easily amused, but admit it you find them just as interesting as the rest of us.
After the show we all started thinking of different legends. There are a ton of them out there, I can’t even think of them all. Some that come to mind are the Bermuda Triangle, Lachusa, La Llorona, Sasquatch, La Pascualita (the Mexican Corpse Bride), and the famous Chupacabra. If you can think of anymore please remind me of them.
I remember eerie stories of Lachusa from my childhood days. The subject always takes me back in time and today it still gives me the chills...hehehe.
La Luchusa is believed to be a dark, mystical creature associated with people who practice witchcraft. It’s believed that witches who use black magic can transform themselves into large owls. The legend is that these witches have the face of a human and the body of an owl. Not a very popular look for one who is seeking a marriage partner.
Lachusas are believed to be 6 to 7 times larger than the size of an average owl. Some people swear that they have actually seen these creatures. They say that lachusas make a whistling sound which spells trouble. The lachusa will chase you down, attack you and torment you. People also see the lachusa as an omen of death and danger. These outrageous creatures are reported to have powerful beaks, razor sharp claws, and weigh a ton.
No wonder why I don’t like owls! Actually people view the presence of an owl differently, some find them good and others like myself believe them to be bad omens. I don’t see them often but when I do I pray De Las Doce Verdades Del Mundo (The Twelve Truths Of The World) and make a beeline outta there!
The Doce Verdades Del Mundo prayer is very powerful you can pray it for protection, strength, healing....you name it. It’s also a prayer used to strengthen many spells. I have included it in this blog entry for you...but it’s in Spanish. I have never seen an English version of the prayer but for my non-Spanish speaking readers I will do my best to translate it for you in my next entry.....promise.

Milagros and a gift from the Curious Curandera
I hope everyone has a happy and safe time bringing in the New Year. We had a great time sitting home and tipping the Champaign bottle and eating black eye peas. Eating black eye peas on new years is supposed to bring good luck in the coming year. I have heard of people eating different things like grapes too. Write and tell me of some of your New Years traditions...I find them all very interesting.
Every New Years I’m struck with a sense of hope, happiness and excitement for the coming year so I would like to talk a little about milagros since they represent many things to me.
Milagros (miracles) are little charms of different shapes and can be used in many ways. You can go in to a church and find these charms attached to Saint Statues or placed at their feet, especially in communities where there is a large number of Hispanics. The charms are offered to the Saints to symbolize a person’s needs or prayer petitions or to give thanks for answered prayers. They are also carried for protection and good luck.
A curandera often fixes and blesses these milagros. Once fixed and blessed the person its given to carries it in their pocket of purse to receive the benefits. If the milagro is fixed and blessed to bring a person good luck the item is then placed inside the home.
Some popular milagros you might see are.....
Heart. This can be used to represent a persons cares, worries, love, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacred Heart of Mary, or a heart condition the person may have.
Eyes. This can represent the human eyes, an eye condition, fading eyesight, or protection.
Praying Woman or Man. This can represent an actual person or a Saint.
Woman’s or a Man’s Head. This can be used to represent an actual person, the mind, the brain, head conditions, a headache, or the person’s spirit.
Girl. This can represent a female child either a family member or a friend.

Make sure to write me to my email with your mailing address. Do not post your address here on the blog. One more thing, please make sure to make a comment here on the blog that you want the milagro so that other readers will know how many are left for the taking.
For those who do not get the milagros I offer you prayers for good luck and prosperity in 2009. let me know if you want prayer and I will honor it. My altars have a very high amount of positive energy so prayers there are very powerful. Happy New Year Everyone.
